  • 3tablespoonsplain yogurt

  • 4cupswater

  • 1/4teaspoonblack salt(see note)

  • Kosher salt

  • 2teaspoonstoasted andground cumin seeds(divided)

  • 1serranochilelightly bruised (optional)

  • 2teaspoonsfinely chopped cilantro leaves, plus whole leaves for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together yogurt, water, black salt, salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons of the cumin powder until lightly frothy. Add serrano chile (if using) and chopped coriander leaves. Stir. Pour into glasses. Sprinkle remaining cumin powder in each glass and top each with a coriander leaf. Serve immediately.

Notes

Indian black salt (kala namak) can be found in Indian grocers or ordered online.
